Best Dental Hygiene Tips

Home / Uncategorized / Best Dental Hygiene Tips

Apart from preventing numerous health complications that includes gum diseases and oral infections, is there any simple reason to maintain good dental hygiene? Yes, it is your lovely SMILE, which makes it is imperative to have an excellent oral health. Surprisingly, many people consider maintenance of good dental hygiene to be a daunting task and in reality, it is not so. One of the best team of dental doctors in Pune offers few best dental hygiene tips and takes us through a journey of good oral practices.
1. Adapt apt brushing style
Let us start from the easiest way. It is not worth brushing regularly two times a day, if it is not carried out in a correct way. What matters is the position of the bristles. Make it a point to keep the bristles at 45 degree angle and brush in back & forth and up & down, touching both the gum lines and teeth. This technique should be carried out in both outer and inner surface of the teeth to remove the food particles. Ideally brushing should be done atleast for two to three minutes.

2. Floss regularly
Even thorough brushing cannot remove the residual food particles residing in the deep pockets that become the haven for bacteria. Hence it is a good habit to floss regularly, atleast once a day to reach out for the deep hidden areas where bristles can’t approach.

3. Good toothpaste matters
Do not get carried away by lucrative commercials. Consult your dentist for the good toothpaste that is suitable for you. Based on your existing dental conditions, your dentist may prescribe short term use of medicated toothpastes. In general, using fluoridated toothpaste would definitely go a long way in strengthening your tooth enamel and reducing tooth day.

4. Stay away from tobacco
Tobacco not only causes several periodontal complications, but may also lead to oral cancer. The countless hazardous chemicals in both versions of tobacco – chewing and smoking, are the prime suspects for deteriorating your dental health.

5. Use teeth only for chewing
Many times, teeth are being abused for several other purposes other than chewing – cracking nuts, removing bottle caps or rip opening the package tapes and countless others. These are not only bad ideas to maintain your dental hygiene, but pose severe risks for chipping or breaking your teeth.

6. Refrain from aerated drinks, coffee and alcohol
It is true that these liquids have phosphorous, which is an essential aspect for your good oral hygiene. But the levels of phosphorous are too high that they deplete the calcium content of your teeth and lead to tooth decay. Milk is the best liquid that not only gives the essential nutrients for body parts, but also supplied calcium for keeping your teeth strong.

7. Wear protective gears
Be it while cycling or playing outdoor sports, always cultivate the habit of wearing protective mouth guard or strong helmet to avoid injury in the face.

8. Use mouthwash
If you are regularly brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist for routine dental checkups, it may not be necessary to use mouthwash. But to kill the excess bacteria in the mouth using mouthwash that contains Listerine is not a bad idea. And not to forget the added advantage – mouthwash liquids make your breath odor free.

9. Clean your tongue
Even who regularly does brushing and flossing, forget to carry out this important task. Yes, cleaning the rough top surface of your tongue with the help of a good tongue cleaner not only helps to remove countless bacteria, they also contribute in minimizing halitosis (bad breath).

10. Routinely visit dentists
The proverb - Prevention is better than cure, cannot be more apt for any other reasons other than oral hygiene. A bi-annual visit to your dentist would prevent and solve most of the dental complications through comprehensive examination.

Just by following these simple tips, it is definitely possible to achieve excellent oral health, says a reputed dentist in Pune. Make it a goal to take excellent care of your oral health through healthy teeth and gums.
