Although root canal treatments are not so complicated medical procedure. It provides excellent benefits but it does affect the tooth structure and patients need to understand that they need to follow certain aftercare tips so that tooth can heal properly and does not get impacted again i.e. fractured & damaged. 1. As it removes the inner part of the tooth, it will be weakened and altered. To get saved from tooth breakage, a cap or crown is placed on the infected tooth. Until the time they are placed it is not protected and needs a due care by you till procedure is completed.

2. As the area of treatment is anaesthetised, then you may feel numbness in roof, lips, and the tongue. Try not to eat anything till that numbness goes off as it can lead to biting of tongue or inner cheek.

3. Avoid biting or chewing anything from the treated tooth till your dentist confirms it is restored completely.

4. Avoid hard or crunchy foods.

5. Don’t drink too cold or too hot drinks as it will lead to sensitivity.

6. Avoid acidic food items.

7. Avoid putting pressure on the treated tooth.

8. Don’t stop flossing and brushing the treated tooth, do it normally and be careful with due care.

9. You may experience thin layer coming out when a temporary filling is done, this is common but if entire filling comes out, immediately visit your dentist.

10. Contact your endodontists if you get a swelling in your mouth- inside or outside.

11. If you get continuous itching or hives, speak to you dentist.

12. Get information on oral pain killers or medications from your dentist to reduce and manage inflammation and discomfort.
