One of the major dental problems is losing teeth. People lose their teeth because of numerous reasons; it may natural, disease or accidental. Implant dentistry has taken many leaps in the recent past and today it has become easier than ever. Few sitting with your dentist and your teeth would be as good as new. The process involved may seem to be very painful and tedious, but it is not.

What is Implant Dentistry?

Implant dentistry is the dental procedure involved in installing an implant inside the jaw bones of a patient. A root device used to support restorations that replicate a missing tooth or a group of teeth is known as a dental implant. A dental implant is usually made of Titanium.

Why is a Dental Implant Necessary?

When someone looses teeth, the bony structure that houses them starts resorbing. This is mainly due to the lack of stimulation. This results in the decrement of the height and the width of the teeth bone. Also, the neighboring teeth begin to push into the position that is left vacant. This leads to problems like food lodging, gun disease, decay and fractured cusps. These conditions demand imminent root canal treatment and extraction, loss of teeth also cause the lips and cheek to collapse, which gives a person aged look. These ill-effects of tooth loss can be prevented by timely replacement of the teeth. There are many choices to reverse the effect of teeth loss but dental implants stand the best among all of them.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium screws that are surgically installed in the bone. Once placed, these tiny screws behave similar to the roots onto which smalls posts are integrated which are held together by the gums. These posts act like anchors for the replacement teeth. These implants cause stimulation and therefore preserve the bone height, they also prevent trimming of neighboring teeth for bridge placement. Since these implants are made of metal, there are no chances of decay in the future; therefore they can serve you for many years with regular care.

Who is Eligible for Implants?

Anyone who has lost a single or a group of teeth can have implants. Although, growing children are not recommended dental implants. People all of age groups can have dental implants even people with the following health concerns:

  • Lifestyle Diseases: With expert advice and proper Implant dentistry people with health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes can have successful dental implants, there will be no problems at all.
  • Dental Decay: Patients who have lost their because of decay or periodontal disease need not worry; implants are successful even in these conditions. Also people wearing partials or dentures can have dental implants.
  • Smokers: Smoking lessens the success rate of implants, even though regular smokers can have implants.

Implant Dentistry Procedure

Integrating a dental implant requires a simple dental surgery. Firstly the implant site is prepared and then the implant is placed inside it. It usually takes 4-6 months for the implant to fuse with the bone. After 4-6 months the implant is uncovered and a replacement tooth is place over it, and finally a crown is cemented over it.

It is a simple surgical procedure, and therefore there is no need for you worry about it, all it takes is 2-3 sittings . So what are you waiting for. Visit us today.

Implant Adjunct procedures

Sinus Lift: - Sinus Lift techniques are used to regenerate lost bone in oral surgery or dental implants. There are two different sinus lift direct sinus lifts & indirect sinus lift.

Ridge expansion: - When teeth are lost and not replaced with implants soon after, the bone in the area tends to shrink away, making it less esthetic or difficult to place implants. Ridge expansion is performed when the jaw is not wide enough or high enough to support implants. The bony ridge of the jaw is increased by splitting the bone with surgical instruments. The bone graft material is inserted and allowed to heal before placing the implant. In some cases, the implant is placed when the ridge is split.

Nerve Lateralization: - Nerve Lateralization or nerve repositioning is performed in dental surgery. It is only done to replace the lower back teeth with a very unique situation. You may need this procedure if the bone is not “tall” enough to have an implant. There also needs to be a lack of space from in-between your top and bottom teeth.
