Improper bites or Malocclusions are one of the most common problems that people face. Improper bites are often a cause of embarrassment. What is Orthodontic?
Orthodontics or Orthodontia is a specialization in dentistry which deals with the treatment and study of malocclusions or improper bites. Orthodontic Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
An Orthodontist while diagnosing a malocclusion ascertains the characteristics of the dentofacial deformity. He further defines the problem which includes the etiology. Based on these reports he determines the strategy which needs to be employed for the specific patient. He then discusses with the patient, the treatment he would be carrying out. After his approval he moves ahead with the treatments.
Methods of Orthodontic Treatments
Although it may seem complicated, it is a very simple procedure, for complete orthodontic treatment metal wires are inserted into orthodontic brackets. These brackets are either made of ceramic material or stainless steel. These wires interact with the brackets and get the teeth into the desired positions. Apart from this two more methods are employed in Orthodontical treatments ,apart from using braces, there are some more components that can be used for Orthodontical treatments; these include removable appliances, headgear, expansion appliances. These are used to move teeth and jaw bones, and align them perfectly. Also, for patients in growing age, functional appliances are used for modifying jaw relationships and dimensions. This particular therapy is known as Dentofacial Orthopedics. Dentofacial therapy is frequently followed by fixed multibracket therapy for aligning teeth and refining occlusion.
